On any given night, more than 500 people in Buncombe County are homeless. Many of them will sleep out in the cold tonight.  Homeward Bound‘s mission to prevent and end homelessness by providing permanent housing and support has moved more than 2,300 people into homes – at a fraction of what it costs when they remain on the streets. Most have never returned to homelessness.

The average lifespan of women experiencing homelessness is 35 years less than women in housing. Unhoused women face unique and profound mental, physical, and social health issues, all of which are made worse by a complicated and often alienating health care system.
