The first song I remember hearing on the radio is John Lennon’s “Just Like Starting Over” from the Double Fantasy album. It was a brand-new world for me, certainly. It was 1980. I was about 5 years old, just getting started in life, and discovering the world through my family’s stereo.

Every day, we would crank up a station that called itself the Home of Rock N Roll in the car, at the house, in the yard…you name it. We were rocking out a lot back then in Eastern NC. Once my grandfather gave me a pocket radio with earphones, I was really hooked.

Radio has influenced my love of music, and vice versa. I dreamed of being on the airwaves, and it led me to study at East Carolina University, to work for Curtis Media Group in Raleigh, Clear Channel and iHeart Asheville, and now Asheville Radio Group.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my family, cooking, reading comics, fishing, hanging out at my favorite spot: Sawhorse, and of course…listening to the radio. All. The. Time
