HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The annual Art on Main art show will return to Hendersonville this weekend for its 66th rendition, coinciding with the one year anniversary of Hurricane Helene.

What to expect at Art on Main

Art on Main will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27-28 in downtown Hendersonville. The event is free to the public.

“This year we’re having over 100 artists,” said Bethany Adams, communications coordinator for the Arts Council of Henderson County. “Some local artists, regional artists. We are also having several local nonprofits that will be represented there and a kids’ corner with activities for kids.”

The featured nonprofits, organizations like the Art League of Henderson County, will all be arts-centric.

A visit to Art on Main is not just a shopping trip. Several artists will also be giving live demonstrations of their work.

“They’ll be sharing their craft. You can watch them in their process,” Adams said.

This year’s Art on Main has additional significance for Henderson County. Last year, Helene hit Western North Carolina the same weekend the festival was scheduled, canceling the event in one of many destructive blows the storm dealt to the region.

“We obviously had to call it off, so that was really disappointing, especially for people who were coming from out of town, ’cause they didn’t really know what was happening here, either,” Adams recalled.

This year, Art on Main represents both 66 years of celebrating the arts and the resilience of the Hendersonville artistic community.

“We’re just really excited about it because we’re all about promoting the artists and giving them the opportunity to share their art with the community,” Adams said. “I think we’re just really excited to be able to be that for them again and have them back this year.”
