ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville City Soccer Club brought players, fans and community organizations together Saturday for a family-friendly event aimed at strengthening local connections while providing resources for aspiring athletes.
The club partnered with HF Center of Exercise Science to host the community event, which welcomed soccer supporters, student-athletes, families, nonprofit organizations and corporate sponsors.
“Our goal was simple: we wanted to create a space where the incredible network surrounding Asheville City Soccer Club could connect, collaborate and celebrate together,” Mathes Mennell, chief operating officer of sporting and club operations, said in a news release.
The event gave attendees an opportunity to meet ACSC players, coaches and trainers while learning what it takes to compete at the next level. Student-athletes also had access to free wellness resources from health professionals who work with the club’s players.
Younger children participated in soccer games with ACSC players and received free ice cream, while families visited booths highlighting community organizations and local services.
Attendees who entered the event raffle had a chance to win a signed Asheville City Soccer Club jersey. Those who donated a pack of diapers for Babies Need Bottoms received a second raffle entry.
Club officials said the event also served as a way to thank sponsors and community partners while supporting Babies Need Bottoms, a local nonprofit that provides diapers and other essentials to families in need.
