ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Next Saturday, Asheville residents are invited to celebrate Arbor Day in the River Arts District, planting trees, receiving seedlings and learning to care for local ecosystems at a free riverside celebration.

The festivities will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 11 at Craven Street Boat Launch, 192 Riverside Dr., and The Smokestack, 91 Riverside Dr. The event is free and open to the public. According to a city press release, Asheville Arbor Day activities will include:

  • Tree planting demonstrations
  • Riparian zone walk-and-talks
  • Giving away tree seedlings
  • Showing people how to care for trees that pop up on their own
  • Sharing information about community projects like the currently-in-production Urban Forest Master Plan
