BREVARD, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Brevard police officer suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning after being struck in the face by a suspect during a call near Burrell Avenue and Peace Drive, authorities said.

Hendersonville police identified the suspect as Ramae Cynquan Foster, who fled the scene in the officer’s patrol vehicle after the assault. Brevard officers, including the injured officer, pursued Foster into Mills River before Henderson County sheriff’s deputies and officers from Fletcher, Hendersonville, Asheville Regional Airport Police and the North Carolina Highway Patrol joined the chase.

Deputies with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to stop the vehicle near Exit 53 on I-26. No injuries were reported from the maneuver. Deputies said Foster resisted arrest but was taken into custody at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that all weapons and equipment inside the stolen Brevard police vehicle were recovered. Brevard police said the injured officer and other officers involved are expected to return to duty soon.

The pursuit caused major traffic disruptions on I-26 eastbound between U.S. 64 and the Upward Road exit as law enforcement vehicles converged on the scene.

The city of Brevard expressed gratitude to Transylvania, Henderson, and Buncombe county sheriff’s offices, as well as Fletcher, Hendersonville and airport police agencies, for their response and assistance.
