ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A proposed Costco development in the Enka/Candler area is back before Asheville’s Planning and Zoning Commission, renewing public interest in a project that has drawn significant attention in recent months.

The proposal calls for a 160,000-square-foot warehouse with a 32-pump fuel station and a tire center at Enka Commerce Park. The development would occupy about 39.6 acres at 264 and 274 Enka Heritage Parkway and 1455 Sand Hill Road.

The project appeared on the commission’s agenda last month, but the development team requested a continuance to allow additional study of the site design. The request to amend the conditional zoning for the Enka Heritage Parkway properties is now scheduled for discussion at Wednesday’s meeting, though the applicant has again requested a continuance, this time to the March 4 meeting.

In addition to the Enka Commerce Park item, the commission is scheduled to consider conditional rezoning requests for properties on North Louisiana Avenue and Sardis Road.

The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Asheville City Hall, 70 Court Plaza, in the first-floor North Conference Room. A pre-meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor Large Conference Room. The pre-meeting is open to the public, but public comment will not be accepted.
