ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two separate crashes shut down major highways in Henderson County on Wednesday morning, creating significant delays for commuters.

A wreck on U.S. 25 near the South Carolina state line was reported just after 7 a.m. in the Zirconia area, according to transportation officials. Lanes were closed near Exit 5 at N.C. 225, and drivers were urged to avoid the area as congestion quickly built. The road was expected to reopen around 9 a.m. No details were immediately available on injuries or how many vehicles were involved.

A second crash was reported less than an hour later on eastbound Interstate 26 near Mile Marker 51, about 2 miles east of Exit 49 at U.S. 64 in Hendersonville. That wreck, reported at 7:54 a.m., also forced a full road closure and was expected to impact traffic heavily until at least 9:54 a.m.

Authorities continued to investigate both incidents Wednesday morning.
