Deputy Jackie Stepp named Interim Police Chief of APD

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — As of today, Asheville Police Department Deputy Jackie Stepp will serve as the Interim Police Chief of the APD.

Stepp was named to the position by Asheville City Manager Debra Campbell following the retirement announcement of APD Chief Michael Lamb in September.

Previously, Stepp served on the APD force for 20 years, including as a deputy chief overseeing the Administrative Bureau.

“I am confident the department will continue delivering the highest level of service to our community under Interim Chief Jackie Stepp’s leadership,” said Campbell in an APD press release. “Her dedication to this organization and commitment to public service and safety will ensure a smooth and effective transition in this vital interim role.”

“I know firsthand the dedication and professionalism that define this department, and I am honored to serve the men and women of the Asheville Police Department, as well as our community in this Interim Chief role,” said Stepp.

More information about the recruitment process for a new chief will be communicated as plans are finalized.
