ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Food Lion Feeds is teaming up with MANNA FoodBank and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina to mark the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene with a large-scale food distribution event in Western North Carolina.

The event, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25, at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher, will provide fresh produce, meat, cheese, eggs and nonperishable groceries to families in need. Food distribution is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers say the effort is a recognition of the resilience shown by the community in the wake of the storm and a reminder of the ongoing need for hunger relief.

Food Lion launched its hunger-relief initiative, Food Lion Feeds, in 2014. The program partners with food banks across the Southeast to increase access to nutritious food.

MANNA FoodBank officials said the collaboration underscores a shared goal of ensuring families can consistently count on access to healthy meals.
