UPDATE: Officials say the gas leak in Asheville’s Montford neighborhood has been stopped. Crews are working to repair the line, which was damaged by a third party working in the area.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Fire Department responded Wednesday morning to a gas leak in the Montford neighborhood, officials said.

Crews were dispatched to 244 Montford Ave. and asked residents within a two-block radius to evacuate immediately. A shelter has been set up at the Temple Avery Community Center, 34 Pearson Drive, for those affected, the department said in a Facebook post.

No injuries have been reported as of the latest update. Fire officials continue to monitor the situation.
