HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Henderson County Public Schools employee has been arrested following an investigation into allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit launched the investigation June 17 after receiving information about the alleged relationship.

As a result of that investigation, authorities arrested 25-year-old Colby Saltz on Friday. He is charged with statutory sex offense with a child and sex act with a student.

Saltz was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Henderson County Detention Center.

Under North Carolina law, a person can be charged with a statutory sex offense with a child if they engage in a sexual act with someone 15 years old or younger and are at least six years older than the alleged victim. The charge of sexual activity with a student applies to school employees, teachers, coaches and other school personnel who engage in sexual activity with a student while the student is enrolled, according to state law.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.

Sheriff Lowell Griffin thanked local partner agencies for their assistance with the case and praised the work of the Special Investigations Unit, which focuses on crimes involving the exploitation and abuse of children.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to Saltz to contact the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office or submit a tip through the agency’s mobile app.
