ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville City Schools will dismiss students early Friday because of potential icy road conditions and anticipated winter weather, the district said.

Elementary schools were dismissed at noon, while middle and high schools will release students at 1 p.m.

District officials said the decision was made due to concerns about road conditions in areas where many students and staff live. The school system said it will continue monitoring weather conditions to ensure the safety of students and staff.
