Forecasters said rain will be likely Wednesday afternoon, with precipitation potentially mixing with or changing to snow overnight as temperatures fall. Any snow accumulation is expected to be spotty and light, but even minor amounts could create isolated slick spots on roads.

Snow shower chances are expected to increase along the Tennessee border Friday afternoon and evening after a cold front moves through the region. While confidence remains low on snowfall totals, officials say travel impacts are possible Friday night, particularly in higher elevations. Gusty winds are also expected across the North Carolina mountains.
