ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A wildfire burning in Pisgah National Forest has grown to 30 acres and reached 15 percent containment as of Tuesday evening, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The Looking Glass Fire, located about 4 miles northwest of Pisgah Forest on the Pisgah Ranger District, continued to draw a coordinated response from firefighters using aircraft, engines and ground crews. Officials said steady water drops and suppression efforts helped crews make progress toward containing the blaze.

Several closures remain in place for public safety, including the Looking Glass Rock Trail and trailhead, as well as sections of Forest Service roads 475 and 475B and nearby trails. Officials urged visitors to avoid all closed areas.

Smoke from the fire may affect nearby communities and roadways, particularly during morning and evening hours. Drivers along the North Carolina Highway 276 corridor are advised to use caution because of reduced visibility and the presence of emergency vehicles.

Air quality impacts are possible, and officials recommend checking conditions through federal monitoring resources.
