ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in an east Asheville crash Wednesday night.

Chad Allen Nichols, 55, was driving a 2022 Harley Davidson west on Interstate 40 when he ran off the road shortly after 6:30 p.m., Asheville police said in a news release. He died at the scene of the crash near the 53-mile marker.

Police said next of kin have been notified.

All lanes of I-40 West from exits 55 to 53 were closed as officers worked the scene.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information about the wreck is asked to contact APD at 828-252-1110 or send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
