Murder warrant issued in Yancey County death

BURNSVILLE, N.C. (828newNOW) — Authorities have issued a murder warrant in the death of a woman in the South Toe community of Yancey County.

The Yancey County Sheriff’s Office said Henry Paul Deyton is being held in connection with the death of Emma Gibbs Deyton. Deputies responded Sunday evening to a home on Twilight Way, where they found Emma Gibbs Deyton deceased.

Following the incident, Henry Paul Deyton was involved in a single-vehicle crash a few miles from the scene and was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. He remains in the custody of the Johnson City Police Department while receiving medical care.

The case is under active investigation by the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

Sheriff Shane Hilliard said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragic event. We appreciate the cooperation of our community and the assistance of our partner agencies as this investigation continues.”
