Officer shoots knife-wielding suspect in Hendersonville

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A suspect was shot by a police officer Sunday afternoon after authorities say the man approached officers with a knife at an apartment complex in Hendersonville.

According to the Hendersonville Police Department, officers responded around 3 p.m. Sunday to a 911 call reporting a man with a knife at the Hebron Terrace Apartments at 609 Hebron Road.

Police said officers arriving at the scene were approached by the suspect, who was armed with a knife. An officer then fired a shot in response to the threat, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to Mission Hospital for treatment. Authorities did not release the suspect’s condition.

The shooting is under investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, which reviews officer-involved shootings in the state as part of standard procedure.

Police have not released additional details about the suspect or the officers involved.
