Pedestrian dies after Patton Avenue crash in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of an Asheville pedestrian earlier this week.

Around 11:29 p.m. on Monday, July 27, APD arrived to the 900 block of Patton Avenue to investigate a report of a car crash involving a pedestrian.

Police said that the preliminary investigation indicated the pedestrian, Linda Jean Johnson, 62, was crossing from the eastbound side of Patton Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westward. Johnson was transported to Mission Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Next of kin has been notified.

“The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. The incident remains under investigation,” APD said. “Once the investigation is complete, officers will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office regarding this tragic incident.”
