ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing Patton Avenue early Tuesday morning, Asheville police said.

The pedestrian was in a crosswalk and had the right of way when hit by a 2015 Ford F-250, according to the Asheville Police Department’s preliminary investigation.

Officers were called to the intersection of Patton and Florida avenues about 6:03 a.m. to investigate the collision.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene before being taken to Mission Hospital with serious injuries, APD Public Information Officer Rick Rice said.

The driver remained at the scene and was cited for failure to yield, Rice said.

Patton Avenue westbound was reduced to one lane for about an hour while emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
