ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Tax departments from several North Carolina counties, including Buncombe County Tax Collections, have received reports of scammers contacting taxpayers about recent property tax legislation.

According to Buncombe County officials, the scammers are “claiming that due to the recent property tax moratorium legislation, tax bills need to be paid over the phone. This is untrue.”

If you receive a scam call, hang up and dial the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 250-6670 to report the call.

“Buncombe County Government will never call and ask for credit card or banking information over the phone,” officials said. “Buncombe County property tax bills have not been created at this time. If you have questions about a bill, call Tax Collections at 828-250-4910.”
