Schools adjust schedules as cold follows day of severe storms

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Frigid temperatures followed a day of severe weather across Western North Carolina, prompting several school districts to delay start times Tuesday, with some opting to shift to remote learning.

Monday’s storms brought gusty winds, heavy rain, tornadoes and snow to the region before temperatures dropped overnight.

Schools adjusting their schedules include:

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College: Closed
Asheville City Schools: Remote learning day
Avery County Schools: Remote learning day
Buncombe County Schools: Closed/optional; teacher work day
Cherokee Central Schools: Two-hour delay
Graham County Schools: Closed, employee work day
Haywood Community College: Two-hour delay
Haywood County Schools: Remote learning/optional teacher work day
Jackson County Schools – All Districts: Two-hour delay
Macon County Schools: Three-hour delay
Madison County Schools: Closed/optional work day
Mayland Community College: Remote learning day
Mitchell County Schools: Remote learning day
Swain County Schools: Two-hour delay
Yancey County Schools: Remote learning day
