ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Shrektoberfest, an annual “Shrek”-themed Oktoberfest celebration, returns this weekend to downtown brewery DSSOLVR.

The DSSOLVR swamp is calling

The “ogre-sized” event will begin at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 at DSSOLVR, 63 N Lexington Ave.

At the fest, which encourages dressing up in “Shrek” costume, there will be a variety of activities inspired by the animated film protagonist.

At 4 p.m., Robert’s Totally Rad Trivia will lead Oct-ogre-fest guests in “Shrek” trivia.

At 5 p.m., strong-stomached celebrators can participate in an onion eating contest.

At 5:30 p.m., a more traditional Oktoberfest activity enters the fray when DSSOLVR patrons compete in a stein-holding competition.

Finally, the “Shrek” costume contest will be held at 6 p.m.

For Shrektoberfest enthusiasts wishing to keep the party going, additional “Shrek” festivities will be held beginning at 9 p.m. at the VOWL bar next door.
