ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a killing that occurred late Saturday near the Madison County line.

Deputies were called just before midnight to Loredos Drive to assist emergency crews responding to an injured person, the agency said in a statement Sunday. When they arrived, deputies found 18-year-old Antonio Contreras Macuixtle and 24-year-old Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle suffering from stab wounds. Both were taken to Mission Hospital, where Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle was pronounced dead.

Detectives have charged Dariel Gustavo Macuixtle Macuixtle, whose name the sheriff’s office clarified is not a typographical error, with second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He was found Sunday in Jackson County and taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held without bond and will be booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility. A booking photo is expected to be released later Sunday.

“The dedicated work of law enforcement personnel throughout the night enabled us to identify, locate and apprehend the offender in this violent incident,” BCSO District 2 Capt. Chris Stockton said in the statement.

He thanked Jackson County deputies for their quick response and extended condolences to the family of Leoncio Contreras Macuixtle.
