ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — UNC Asheville guard Jamaria Freeman has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Freeman helped the Bulldogs go 1-1 last week, scoring a career-high 16 points in a 64-58 overtime win over South Carolina State on Wednesday. She added two rebounds, two assists and one steal in the victory.

On Saturday, Freeman had 13 points against North Florida, along with five rebounds, four assists and two steals, matching her career high in rebounds.

The honor is Freeman’s first Big South Freshman of the Week recognition. The Wilson native is a criminal justice major.

UNC Asheville will return to action Thursday, Dec. 11, against East Tennessee State in non-conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Johnson City, Tennessee. Video, live stats, radio coverage and tickets are available here.
