ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A wildfire broke out off Pisgah View Road near McKinney Road about 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters started arriving on scene about 15 minutes later, while neighbors gathered in their yards, wondering which way the flames would spread.

“Do you think we’re safe,” asked a woman who lived across the road.

Almost an hour later, firefighters were still arriving. Please avoid the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch until 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1, for most of the Asheville area because of the dry, windy conditions.
