From the outskirts of Asheville, NC, comes the debut of Kudzu; the first full-length LP from Asheville Indie trio Zillicoah. Celebrate the release of Kudzu Thursday, August 24th, at The Odd in West Asheville, with support by local rock groups Hit Dogs and Blissful Thoughts and features by Abigail Taylor of Fantomex. Kudzu is scheduled for digital release August 25th, on all music streaming services.
Zillicoah’s sound defies easy categorization. At times reminiscent of iconic post-hardcore acts like Fugazi and The Jesus Lizard, with driving rhythms, distorted guitars, and urgent, impassioned vocals. In the same breath, the band will turn on a dime to embrace dreamy, introspective soundscapes of shoegaze pioneers like Sweredriver and Hum. What sets Zillicoah apart is their willingness to push the boundaries of what contemporary rock music can be, incorporating elements of indie-rock, shoegaze, emo and even folk music into their sound. The trio’s current lineup consists of Rome Widenhouse (guitar, vocals), Brandon Ball (drums), and Andrew Breeden (bass).
After reforming from a brief hiatus in 2020 Zillicoah began working on the body of work that would eventually become Kudzu. Rome Widenhouse and former drummer Jonah Illeana recorded the album in just two days in July of 2021. The record was engineered by Edward Madill and mixed and mastered by Ryan Slagle.
